Hiking in Patagonia

With some extra time on my hands I have been lucky enough to relive some of my adventures by scrolling through memory cards in the comfort of my office chair. An incredibly special trip I was lucky enough to go on was 3 months in South America with a friend. I wasn't a major hiker before this and the camera I was typically using was my moms. She convinced me that we should hike the Q trail in Patagonia, Chile, and down for any adventure, I said yes. Fast forward to after the 9 day hike with a full memory card on my new Olympus Camera, I was hooked on hiking and photography.

If you are remotely interested in hiking, I highly recommend putting Patagonia on your list. Each day the landscape changed, leaving you in awe of the beauty surrounding you. The winds brought in incredible cloud formations. The glacier's made the water a stunning shade of blue - think Lake Louise in Alberta. The National Park rules make the beauty protected and seem untouched. All in all can't say enough about the scenery found here.

You have the option to do the W, which is a shortened version of the hike. You still get to finish off the hike at the Three Towers which are set in a stunning location. The nice thing about doing the full q is that you get to experience the landscape and campsites with minimal people. The campsites on the W were definitely more populated, taking away from some of the ambience. To the right are the towers at sunrise on our last day.

To see the towers are sunrise in Torres Del Paine National Park you have to rise alarmingly early. We were lucky enough to have a spot reserved in the closest campsite to the towers which bumped back our alarms to 3:15am. We then hiked with head lamps and the rain up a sharp incline. We packed our sleeping bags with us, some snacks and tea (but leave no trace!) and waited to be awed.

Glacier grey and many other stunning spots can be found in this National Park. You will get to experience remote campsites, drink from glacier fed streams, see wild horses and fall in love with Patagonia if you decide to hike.
